Feline Tooth Resorption (TR)
DentistryFelineNew
Key Points
  • Feline tooth resorption (TR) is a painful dental condition, characterised by progressive loss of dental tissues
  • Most frequently seen in middle-aged to older cats
  • Early disease is often asymptomatic, but more developed lesions can cause severe pain, dysphagia and inappetence
  • Accurate diagnosis and staging requires radiographs to be able to assess the whole tooth
  • There is no treatment to stop or reverse resorption so extraction or crown amputation is recommended
Differential Diagnoses
  1. Periodontal disease
  2. Tooth fractures
  3. Feline chronic gingivostomatitis
  4. Oral neoplasia
