DermatologyFelineNew
Key Points
  • Feline eosinophilic granuloma complex (EGC) is a group of hypersensitivity patterns in cats, characterised by eosinophilic inflammation of the skin or oral mucosa
  • There are 3 distinct patterns:
    • Eosinophilic plaque
    • Eosinophilic granuloma
    • Indolent (or rodent) ulcer
  • Each lesion varies in appearance and location
  • Diagnosis is based on clinical presentation and cytology or histopathology for confirmation
  • Control of the underlying triggers is essential for treatment and immunosuppression can be used additionally to reduce the immune response
  • Recurrence is common if the underlying triggers are not addressed
Differential Diagnoses
  1. Dermatophytosis
  2. Pyoderma
  3. Pemphigus foliaceus
  4. Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC)
  5. Cutaneous lymphoma
