Key Points
  • Jaagsiekte (Ovine Pulmonary Adenocarcinoma) is a transmissible pulmonary neoplasia of sheep, caused by Jaagsiekte sheep retrovirus (JSRV)

  • A positive wheelbarrow test is highly suggestive for the condition
  • Post-mortem findings include heavy, wet, non-collapsing lungs and frothy fluid in the airways
  • There is no treatment or vaccine available
  • Euthanasia is recommended on welfare grounds
