Vagal indigestion (Hoflund syndrome) is a syndrome of functional or mechanical impairment of gastrointestinal outflow
Most commonly seen in adult cattle
There are 4 recognised types:
- I – failure of eructation
- II – failure of omasal transport
- III – pyloric outflow obstruction
- IV – late pregnancy obstruction
A characteristic finding is the ‘papple‘-shaped abdomen
Diagnosis is typically based on history & clinical presentation
Treatment depends on reversing the underlying cause

Differential Diagnoses

Left displaced abomasum (LDA)
Right displaced abomasum (RDA)
Gastrointestinal obstruction
Frothy bloat
